The project has received support and encouragement from community organizations
and government officials, aware of the experience of the owners. Following
are extracts of messages at the highest level of government, at the
inception of the project in 1998.
Message the Minister of Media, Tourism and Aviation
"Barberyn Reef Hotel was also the first Hotel in Sri Lanka to
introduce Ayurvedic Care and Treatment in 1982. The benefits of this
long experience will result in the new resort offering visitors the
best of Ayurvedic treatment.
The outstanding tranquil location overlooking the Indian Ocean, the
environmentally sensitive design and rural setting proposed, the fine
hospitality for which the promoters of the project are known, will ensure
that the new resort combining health with leisure will emerge as a unique
centre in the region.
I am confident that the project will also act as a catalyst to the
Economic Development of the locality, accelerate the practice of Ayurvedic
Treatment and contribute to the development plans of the Southern Province
and Tourism in Sri Lanka.
I wish the project every success."

Message from Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine
"The Barberyn Reef Hotel is one of the leading hotels in Sri Lanka
today and it was the pioneer in providing Ayurveda treatment and cure
in tourist resorts. I am aware that Ayurvedic treatment at Barberyn
Reef Hotel has earned recognition particularly in Europe. I understand
that there is a proposal to set up in the coastal town of Midigama,
another Indigenous Health Resort to cater to the local and foreign guests
under the patronage of Barberyn Reef Hotel, which will ensure its clients
treatment and attention of high caliber.
I feel confident that this project will be successful and will contribute
positively to the development of Ayurveda in Sri Lanka and will give
a fillip to the Tourist Industry of Southern Sri Lanka. The services
rendered by this Health Centre will not only bring valuable foreign
exchange to our country but will also cater to the needs of foreign
guests who are unable to obtain such services in their own countries.
This new project will undoubtedly contribute positively to the popularisation
of Ayurveda, and enhance the Tourist Industry.
I take this opportunity to extend our best wishes to Barberyn Reef
Hotel who are promoters of this new project."
