1. Is your resort like a Spa?
Answer: Barberyn is quite different to a Spa. A Spa pampers
and provides you with an indulgent external environment to help relax
and feel good. The hotel facilities of Barberyn are combined with extensive
Ayurveda medicial facilities to provide a comprehensive system of healing
aimed at the total well being of the individual. Barberyn aims at healing
the body, mind and spirit with authentic herbal medicine, different
kinds of medicinal massages and other therapies with the objective of
lasting well being and treating specific illnesses for which allopathic
(western medicine) may have no answer.
2. I am a single woman who wants to combine many things
in one trip. A little sightseeing, some well being and a good and safe
holiday.
Answer: Barberyn caters to the needs of a varied clientele of
repeating guests. Today's women are health conscious and have spending
money, and single women have enjoyed Barberyn for its secure environment,
the friends they make with men and women from different parts of the
world, the caring environment and the presence of the owners who have
operated the resort for more than thirty years.
We also organize daily excursions to places of interest around the
resort, and tours to places of cultural and scenic interest. These short
excursions are free of charge for resident guests. The resort also organizes
Tours ranging from three days to three weeks with an English speaking
driver at a reasonable price.
3. Is the resort like a hospital?
Answer: The resort is foremost a place of vacation - with all
the facilities that go into a comfortable and enjoyable beach holiday.
It is how ever more than a holiday resort. It provides the correct environment
to engage in the healing that comes from within.
The focal point is the holistic specialized health centre with all
the facilities that is required to provide authentic ayurveda treatment.
The health centre has about 40 physicians, therapists and other staff.
A resident therapist is available at all hours. Western (allopathic)
doctors are also on call) the resort also provides opportunities for
the practice of yoga and meditation and knowledge of the self.
4. How can I get to the resort from the airport?
Answer: The resort is 85 Kilometres from the airport - to the
South of Sri Lanka. It takes about 2 - 2.5 hours to get to the resort,
depending on the time of the day and traffic. The hotel meets all its
guests at the airport and provides transport to and from the resort
as a special service, free of charge.
5. What can I do other than taking the Ayurveda treatment?
Answer: Apart from the hotel facilities we also organize short
excursions (almost daily) and cultural activities such as traditional
music, and dance. Other activities such as ayurvedic cooking classes,
astrology lectures and casting of horoscopes, lectures on Buddhist philosophy
and meditation, Yoga. All these activities are free of charge to resident
guests.
6. What is the weather like from July to October?
Answer: The weather in Sri Lanka is warm (ranges around 75 -
85 %) and sunny. During the period from May to October (known as the
monsoon period - the name given to the rains that come to the Indian
subcontinents) we experience late afternoon showers. With global warming
and changes in weather patterns it is difficult to predict the weather
at any given period of time. Even during the "rainy season"
you can enjoy sunshine during some part of the day.
7. Can the resort cater to special dietary requirements?
Answer: The resort caters to varied dietary needs of guests.
In fact the health centre prescribes the diet of each guest and the
information is recorded and followed by the kitchen. A dietician is
at hand during meal times to advice guests of their dietary requirements.
8. Is the resort wheel chair accessible?
Answer: 80% of the resort is wheel chair accessible and a few
rooms in the main building close to the reception and the dining room
are usually reserved for guests who have problems with mobility. The
resort can also provide a special attendant if so required.
