Tours are pre-arranged and usually commence on arrival at the airport
and vary in length depending on the guest requirements. Depending on
the time of arrival of the flight, some guests prefer to stay overnight
close to the airport and start the tour the next day.
The following is an indicative tour.
4 days - 3 nights Sri Lankan highlights.
Airport - Sigiriya - Polonnaruwa - Dambulla - Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
- Weligama
Day One: Welcome on arrival and leave for Sigiriya - the rock
fortress and palace built
by King Kasyapa in the 5th Century A.D. The huge rock rises almost
to a height of 500 feet. On its summit are the ruins of what was
once a great and sumptuous palace and gardens. On one of the stairways,
an ancient work of Sinhala secular painting - fresh and delicate
in its original colour. After sightseeing at Sigiriya proceed
to Giritale. Dinner and overnight at Giritale Hotel.
Day Two: Wake up to the sounds of the forests and after breakfast
leave for Pollonnaruwa - the second medieval capitol of Sri Lanka (
12th Century A.D.) Highlights of the visit will be the stone temple
popularly known as Galviharaya. Take in the quadrangle (palace complex)
and other archaeological and historical sights.
Proceed to Dambulla. Visit the historic cave temple of Dambulla dating
back to the 1st Century BC, which comprises of five caves, having the
highest number of Buddha statues and which is easily the most impressive
of the cave temples found in Sri Lanka.
Lunch enroute. Proceed to Kandy after lunch. Kandy is the last citadel
of the Sri Lankan kings. Visit the temple of the tooth relic.
Watch also a cultural show depicting Sri Lankan folk dance forms
culminating with a fire walking ritual.
Dinner
and overnight at Topaz hotel, Thilanka Hotel or the Hotel Casamara,
Kandy.
Day Three: After breakfast leave for a city tour of Kandy. Tour
leisurely along upper lake drive; visit the local market, a Hindu temple
and the Royal Botanical Garden, at Peredeniya, in the outskirts of Kandy.
This botanical gardens consisting of sixty-seven hectares of exquisite
beauty and botanical treasures was the pleasure gardens of the royal
family.
Lunch in Kandy, and after lunch, proceed to Nuwara Eliya. Drive through
the picturesque mountains and stop to admire some waterfalls.
As you travel you will see the vegetation change from tropical
profusion to cool and gentle green hills, the home of Ceylon tea.
En route visit a tea factory and witness the process of tea
production and taste a cup of the real thing. Dinner and overnight
at Galway forest lodge or Grand Hotel, Nuwaraeliya.
Day Four: After breakfast, a short city tour of Nuwara eliya
and get a feel of the holiday hill stations developed by the British
and still a popular vacation spot. Proceed to the South Coast via Kitulgala.
As the day ends, reach Barberyn Ayurveda Resort where travel ends and
the journey within begins.
