At Barberyn Ayurveda Resorts, we believe that true healing is achieved when all four pillars of Ayurveda work together in harmony. According to authentic Ayurvedic texts, these four pillars are known as Vaidyadi Chatushpada—the physician, the patient, the therapist, and the medicine (dravya).
For decades, Barberyn has been known for its dedicated physicians and caring therapists. But we realized that to complete the circle of healing, we also needed to strengthen the “medicine” pillar—by ensuring that every herbal preparation we use is pure, authentic, and of the highest quality.
This is how the medicine making facility at Institute of Ayurveda and Alternative Medicine (IAAM) was born. Set within the historic Rodrigo family house “Sirivilasa”, our institute brings together tradition and science under one roof. It is officially registered with the Department of Ayurveda, Ministry of Health and accredited with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution.
What We Create
The IAAM prepares a wide range of Ayurvedic remedies exclusively for our guests, including:
- Nourishing herbal oils
- Arishta (fermented herbal tonics)
- Churna (herbal powders)
- Kalka (herbal pastes)
- Swarasa (fresh herbal juice extracts)
- Phanta (herbal hot infusions)
Each preparation follows authentic Ayurvedic methods and is carefully supervised by our Ayurvedic doctors, supported by botanists, senior consultants, and university lecturers. This collaboration ensures that ancient wisdom is preserved while meeting today’s highest standards of safety and quality.
Why It Matters for Our Guests
Over the years, our physicians have seen remarkable results when treatments are paired with these authentic preparations. Guests often notice deeper relaxation, faster recovery, and a stronger sense of wellbeing. For us, these outcomes affirm the importance of staying true to Ayurveda while embracing the best of modern quality practices.
By creating our own medicines, Barberyn continues to strengthen the four pillars of Ayurveda, ensuring that every guest receives not just treatments, but truly holistic healing.
