Happy Sinhala and Tamil New Year! 🌺 As always, all of us at Barberyn came together to welcome the New Year with cherished traditions and by sharing delicious meals. It was a moment full of warmth, connection, and lots of joy. We began at the auspicious time, just as it is followed across the island, where the New Year is a time to rest and enjoy the rewards of hard work in the paddy fields. Villages slow down, and hearths stay quiet through the night, with no cooking, until dawn arrives at its sacred time. Fires are then lit, and a pot of milk is boiled until it gently overflows, as a beautiful symbol of abundance. Meals are prepared and shared together among families as the first meal of the year. Children keep the tradition of honoring the elders by offering them sheaves of betel leaves, and temples are filled with devotion and togetherness. This New Year is also celebrated in many parts of Asia, bringing a shared feeling of renewal and connection. Wishing you joy, peace, health, and harmony. May the year ahead bring renewal and balance. ✨
